Clovers Brown sugar is used very similarly to granulated white sugar, but it provides a touch of extra flavor. Common uses of brown sugar include sweetening. Some varieties of natural brown sugar are also used to make alcoholic beverages like rum. It is often produced by adding sugarcane molasses to completely refined white sugar crystals to more carefully control the ratio of molasses to sugar crystals and to reduce manufacturing costs.
